[smartPC사랑=남지율 기자] Recently, the trend of content consumption is changing rapidly. To take an example of video content, in the past there were quite a few movies that exceeded 10 million viewers, but now, movies that exceed 10 million viewers are not common. In addition, as movie prices have increased significantly compared to before Corona 19, more consumers are choosing OTT services instead of movie theaters.
Due to this trend, AV systems that allow you to enjoy content with a greater sense of immersion at home are also attracting attention. In the case of displays, as of 2023, the range of choices has widened significantly. You can choose the product you want, considering your wallet and needs, from large TVs at reasonable prices released by small and medium-sized businesses to 8K TVs from large companies.
On the other hand, speakers are more difficult to choose than displays. Depending on the configuration, it is necessary to consider how to arrange the speakers or arrange wiring, and additional equipment such as a receiver may be required.
The ‘JBL BAR 1300’, which we will look at in the review, is a sound bar that will easily solve your concerns regarding speakers. This sound bar not only supports Dolby Atmos, but also can implement physical stereoscopic sound as much as it can place rear (rear) speakers wirelessly.
Focused on ease of use
Let’s start with the components of the JBL BAR 1300. First of all, the core components consist of the main body of the sound bar, a detachable rear speaker, a subwoofer, and a remote control. Other components include power cord, HDMI cable, side cap for sound bar, and wall bracket.
JBL BAR 1300 is a sound bar that inherits the position of ‘JBL 9.1’, and its basic design looks similar to its predecessor. Black color, which is full of premium home appliances, was chosen as the main color, and unlike existing products, it has three-dimensional control buttons, so it can be used more intuitively.
The terminals installed on the sound bar consist of a power terminal, USB terminal (for firmware update), Ethernet terminal, HDMI IN 1~3 terminal, HDMI ARC/eARC OUT terminal, and optical output terminal.
If you are raising a companion animal, there is a reason to pay attention to the JBL BAR 1300. Thanks to the speaker grill being made of a metal material rather than a cloth material, you will be able to feel safe even if your cat climbs on the sound bar.
At first glance, it seems that only stereo sound can be reproduced, but when you look inside, you will be amazed at JBL’s bold amount. Up to 11.1.4 channel sound system can be implemented as a sound bar with 6 up-firing speakers for realizing a sense of space above the head, a tweeter for high-pitched sound, and 4 passive radiators.
Also noteworthy is the removable rear speaker that works wirelessly. There is a battery inside the detachable rear speaker, so it is possible to play for up to 10 hours even when it is separated from the speaker. Charging is simple. You can charge it by simply attaching the detachable rear speaker to the soundbar, just like charging wireless earphones. In addition, unlike the rear speaker of JBL 9.1 with a micro 5-pin terminal, this time it has a USB Type-C terminal, so it can be easily charged with a USB cable.
A magnetic cap to block the side of the sound bar and the rear speaker is also provided, so you can use it more neatly.
The subwoofer boasts a powerful output of up to 300W and is wirelessly connected to the sound bar, so you can easily set it up with just a power cable.
The remote control is a structure that can quickly control essential functions. It has a light weight, so there is no burden on the wrist, and it is possible to adjust the volume of the rear speaker or bass.
The JBL BAR 1300 can also be used for listening to music by connecting it to a smartphone. In particular, the unique function applied to the rear speaker is impressive. It supports a function that allows each rear speaker to be used as an independent Bluetooth speaker, and it is also possible to configure two rear speakers in stereo. When I listened to music in a stereo configuration, it was quite authentic like a JBL. If you do not have a Bluetooth speaker, it is difficult to feel a big lack even if you use it as a main Bluetooth speaker.
The JBL BAR 1300 also offers AirPlay or Chromecast functionality. Unlike Bluetooth, since it is connected via Wi-Fi, you can enjoy better sound quality, and you can configure multi-room sound with other Airplay/Chromecast supported speakers.
In addition, EQ can be adjusted through the app, so you can set the sound that suits your taste and listen to music.
Experience the excitement of a movie theater at home
The JBL BAR 1300 is a flagship sound bar located at the top of the JBL BAR lineup. As it is located in such a position, it has compatibility with various stereo sound technologies including DTS:X. It also supports Dolby Atmos, one of the three-dimensional sound technologies that are currently receiving the most attention.
After connecting to the Xbox Series X and running a Dolby Atmos-enabled game, I was able to confirm that the Soundbar detected the Dolby Atmos source through the LED on the Soundbar.
First of all, I enjoyed the racing game ‘Forza Horizon 4’. Due to the nature of racing games, the presence of sounds from the rear is not very noticeable in sections where you run alone. However, I was able to realistically appreciate the sound of a competitor vehicle chasing following me, and the engine sound, which is the core of a racing game, feels very vivid.
Next, we conducted a test with the shooting game ‘Gears 5’. Since it is important to know the location of the enemy in real time in shooting games, compatibility with the JBL BAR 1300 was excellent. In particular, thanks to the unique sense of space of Dolby Atmos, I was able to fall into it more easily.
Watching director Bong Joon-ho’s ‘Okja’ supported by Dolby Atmos, the JBL BAR 1300 showed its true value in video content as well. The magnificence of the scene where the super pig ‘Okja’ appears is particularly impressive. The sense of direction and three-dimensionality, which are difficult to feel with stereo speakers, are also excellent.
In addition, the ‘Pure Voice’ function, which amplifies the conversation and reproduces the sound, was also useful. I was able to hear the lines more clearly when watching the dialogue-oriented drama.
concluding
The JBL BAR 1300 is a sound bar that can easily implement surround sound through a wireless connection. It boasts a more certain sense of direction through the physical separation of the rear speaker, and it is also impressive that the convenience of use has been greatly improved by supporting a dedicated app. This product is recommended for those who want to enjoy vivid sound like a movie theater at home. The price is 1,890,000 won.
