Jazz legend, saxophonist Pharoah Sanders is dead

Jazz legend, Pharoah Sanders, an extremely inventive American saxophonist, who had embraced the influence of African and Indian music, died on Saturday September 24, at the age of 81, his label announced.

“We are devastated to announce that Pharoah Sanders has passed away. He died peacefully, surrounded by loving family and friends in Los Angeles.”said the Luaka Bop label in a press release.

Born in Little Rock (Arkansas) on October 13, 1940, Farrell “Pharoah” Sanders was the musical companion of the last years of John Coltrane (1926-1967), tenor and soprano like him, and partner of his albums Meditations et Kulu Se Mama. After the death of the master, he released his album in 1969 Karmasince considered one of the major discs of the spiritual jazz.

More recently, in 2021, he collaborated with British producer and DJ Floating Points and the London Symphony Orchestra for the album Promises, a widely acclaimed cosmic opera.
