“Jazz” in the Arab world… This is how we say “we are here”
Jazz music began as a state of revolt once morest racial discrimination, so what is its reality in the Arab world?
In a discussion regarding the history of jazz and the most important names associated with it in the Arab world, Donna Khalifa, a Lebanese musician, Noha Fikry, an Egyptian artist, Salwa Jaradat, a Palestinian artist, and Ghaida Al-Rashidi, a Yemeni researcher at the Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies. And via Zoom, the Syrian musician and singer Lynn Adeeb participated.
The participating artists talked regarding their personal experiences with jazz, its entry into the Arab world, and the importance of improvisation in this type of music.
