HOUSTON, April 29 (Xinhua) — One person was killed and another injured following a shooting Friday night, ahead of the annual Jazz Festival, at a popular restaurant in New Orleans, La largest city in the southern US state of Louisiana, authorities said on Saturday.

The New Orleans Police Department said the waiter shot dead outside Mandina’s Restaurant was the intended target of the shooting on the opening day of the Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans (New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival).

A tourist who traveled from Chicago for the festival, who was dining indoors at the time, was hospitalized and is in stable condition, New Orleans Police Commissioner Michelle Woodfork said at a conference. Press.

“A day of celebration has been marred by yet another senseless act of violence,” New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said in a statement on Saturday.

“We need tougher gun laws, tougher penalties and accountability from all public safety agencies if we are to end this crisis,” the statement said.
