Eligible for a new contract this summer, Jaylen Brown might lock his future in Boston in the long term. According to the latest information fromESPNthe two parties have started to exchange but no agreement seems imminent.
The Free Agency is not just signing free players or trades, it is also players who can validate contract extensions. After Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Haliburton or even Domantas Sabonis, it may well be Jaylen Brown who will afford a big raise. One year from the end of his contract, the Boston swingman can sign a new boosted deal this summer in Massachusetts. Why boosted? Because the player has 7 years of experience in the League and his place in the All-NBA Second Team this season allows him to unlock the supermax contract (details here). In other words, it is eligible for a max deal of up to .. 295 million out of 5.
Not that the player doesn’t deserve the money, but that’s a lot of money for the Celtics. This is all the more true when we know that Tatum will be eligible for a 318 million deal over 5 years in 2024. Not to mention that Kristaps Porzingis is also weighing on the accounts with his new deal in Beantown, and Grant Williams is waiting always an extension. NBA Finalists in 2022 and Conference Finalists in 2023, Boston seems to want to continue to believe in its Jay Brothers doublet and the franchise will try to extend Jaylen Brown this summer tells us Brian Windhorst ofESPN.
“Both sides are talking. This is obviously a very important and fragile agreement. I know that both parties want to reach an agreement. I expect things to go that way.”
According to the insider, what may explain why Boston does not validate the deal quickly is that the Celtics may want to negotiate a small discount on the price but also the fact that the men in green are attentive to the market and they do not close any door, not even that of exchanging Brown if the consideration is worth it (Lillard ?).
“The only thing to point out: if Jaylen Brown is extended, he cannot be traded for a year. The contract doesn’t matter. It cannot be exchanged. So the Celtics probably want to make sure all of their business is done before they go down that road.”
