Minnesota’s chief executive disclosed on Sunday a phone conversation with the renowned hip-hop artist.
The Minnesota governor declared Sunday that he’d spoken with Jay-Z about the tragic passing of George Floyd. “I received a call last night from Jay-Z. Not just the global music icon, but a father, emphasizing the need for justice,” Tim Walz informed CBS Minnesota. “It was profoundly human… A black man, a father, deeply grieved,” he elaborated.
The celebrated rapper subsequently issued a written statement. “Following our serious discussion, thank you, Governor Walz, for taking the right action and requesting Attorney General Keith Ellison to assume control of the George Floyd case. Earlier today, Governor Walz mentioned speaking with me – a father, a suffering Black man. Indeed, I am a hurting man, a father, and a Black man, and I’m not alone,” he penned.

“Now, with a nation in mourning, I urge Prosecutor Ellison to act justly and prosecute all accountable for George Floyd’s murder. This marks only the initial phase. My resolve to secure justice surpasses any resistance I might face,” he continued before concluding: “I implore every politician, prosecutor, and law enforcement officer nationwide to demonstrate the courage to do what’s right. To see us as humans – fathers, brothers, sisters, and mothers enduring profound pain.”
The declaration follows an Instagram video from Beyoncé two days prior. “We cannot accept this suffering as normal. We can no longer avert our gaze. There have been far too many instances where such unjust killings have gone unpunished. George Floyd is part of our family as an American citizen,” the rapper’s spouse stated directly to the camera.
