A spark reacted with the gas and suddenly the comedian’s face was on fire. “My face caught fire,” says Leno. “It felt exactly like my face was on fire,” he says. “Maybe like the most intense sunburn I’ve ever had,” Leno describes the feeling he had at the time.

In the end, Jay Leno was lucky in his misfortune. Despite the shock, he knew he had to close his eyes and hold his breath as he struggled to get out from under the vehicle before Killackey helped pull him out.
“I’m not a panic person, but I knew if I breathed in, I might scorch my lungs,” Leno says of the accident. “I was under the car maybe 10 seconds before Dave pulled me out. I might have lost my eye longer.”
