Accompanied by his parents, sister and daughter, Javier Acosta said goodbye to this world. The young Millonarios fan fulfilled his wish to die with the euthanasia procedure because he could no longer bear the pain and deterioration of his quality of life due to osteomyelitis, a disease he contracted five years ago in a swimming pool in Melgar. Javier died just after 12:00 on Friday, August 30.

In recent days, the young Millonarios fan has become quite a celebrity for his messages of strength and his determination to die with dignity.

The procedure, at the family’s request, was done in private. Specialists at the San Ignacio University Hospital in Bogotá had the difficult task of applying the procedure.

“On behalf of the family, we extend a special thanks to each of the people who have been in contact and accompanied Javier in person and through messages of love and concern,” The hospital reported in a statement sent by the young man’s family.

All morning long Dozens of people gathered outside the hospital to bid farewell to someone they consider a symbol of courage and strength. In videos posted on social media, members of the Blue Commandos can be seen chanting goodbye to one of their most fervent members.

“Javi. Dear Javi, the Commandos will never forget you!” They shouted while waving the flags of the Bogota team.

And it was at that very moment that we saw Javier for the last time. From the top of a window in the hospital, he was waving the Millonarios shirt as a symbol of gratitude to those who had been with him all these days.

Farewell to his daughter

“Imagining my life without my legs, in bed, on antibiotics, watching my daughter take care of me and losing the opportunity to have a childhood and a youth, I said that I want euthanasia.” These words spoken by Javier before his death summarise very well the reasons that led him to make this complex decision.

He revealed that he spoke to his little daughter who, with tears in her eyes, supported him from the beginning. “She wipes her eyes and you know what she says to me: ‘Daddy, look, I’m going to be honest with you, I love you, but I’d rather you be in heaven with Daddy God than be here and see you suffer in bed writhing in pain.’ “Imagine how mature my daughter has become,” Javier recalled.

In addition to that conversation, the girl who is about to turn 12, sent him an emotional message: “Daddy, I love you with all my life, you are the first love of a daughter, of a woman, you are my life, but I prefer that you be with God than to see you continue suffering in a bed.”

Your pet’s letter

The sad farewells did not end there. Before entering the hospital, Javier decided to give his dog ‘Katy’ up for adoption. The Adopt a Good Friend Chan Foundation was in charge of receiving her. That same entity, in a gesture of solidarity, He wrote a letter on behalf of his pet, his faithful companion.

“Papito @rolomillos_13, This is your little black conceited girl, the light of your eyes and your faithful companion, Katy. Today I just want to thank you for choosing me as your adventure partner, we both kept each other company and I don’t know if I saved you or you saved me.” says the letter published on social media.

Days before, Javier received a call from his greatest idol, Radamel Falcao García, who, accompanied by his wife, promised him that he would pray for him and that, as soon as he scored his first goal with Millonarios, he would look up to the sky and dedicate it to him.

And the 36-year-old’s passion for the blue team was so great that in one of his videos, as a joke, he says that he will “pull the legs” of the Millonarios players if they don’t win their games: “And crazy, I’m going to go to heaven and I’m going to grab and pull the legs of the ‘Millos’ players to see if they move and we win. Always happy until the 90th minute and more.”
