Jastrzębski Węgiel achieved its goal and will play for victory in the Champions League for the second time in a row. In the second semi-final match, the team from Jastrzębie defeated Ziraat Bank Ankara 3:2. The first two sets, won by the Polish team, turned out to be crucial, closing the two-legged match.

A week ago, JW took an important step towards another Champions League final, winning once morest the Turkish team 3-0. Thus, the Polish champion went to Ankara with the intention of winning two games. However, it was certain that the hosts would do everything to turn the tide of the competition.

The first two sets confirmed this. They looked almost identical. Practically from the beginning to the end, the teams fought very evenly. At most, teams were able to gain a two-point lead. Turkish players were the first to get the set points twice. Each time, Marcelo Mendez’s players managed to overcome the difficulties and then tipped the scales of victory to their side.

The match had to be played from the third set onwards. The team from Ankara led to a tie-break. However, the last word belonged to the team from Jastrzębie, who confidently won the fifth round.

Ziraat Bank Ankara – Jastrzębski Węgiel 2:3 (32:34, 25:27, 25:16, 25:21, 7:15)

Thus, Polish clubs are one step away from completely dominating European competitions. Projekt Warszawa started winning, winning the Challenge Cup. Asseco Resovia Rzeszów won the CEV Cup.
