Just before the facts, Jason’s attacker was there with a group of young people. “The victim was also accompanied by a group. The author left the scene for a moment and returned. When he returned, he headed straight for the victim before stabbing him twice“, reports the Charleroi prosecutor’s office.
Following the beatings, Jason tried to find help by taking refuge in a nearby cafe. His attacker was arrested following he returned to his home.
A first altercation in early November
The scene originated in a conflict between the two young people, the nature of which is not specified by the prosecution. According to our information, it might be a story of an electric scooter. The only element currently available to the prosecution relates to an exchange of names of birds.
The prosecution reveals that a first altercation opposed the two young people on November 2. That day, the positions were reversed. “It turns out that the alleged stabber was the victim, in that first scene. He received several blows from the other teenager, and had his nose broken“, details Sandrine Vairon, division prosecutor of Charleroi.
Due in particular to this first altercation, the facts of Thursday evening are currently qualified as assassination, that is to say murder with premeditation.
No trial in assize court
The suspect, who is therefore a minor, has no criminal record. He will be presented to a juvenile judge this Friday followingnoon. As provided by law, this will fix a placement in IPPJ (Public institution for the protection of young people) for a fixed period. “It is a different procedure from that known for adults. An investigating judge is in charge of the investigation but the decision as to the measures to be taken is up to a juvenile judge. It is he who decides on the maintenance in PYPI at the end of the period“, informs the district attorney.
What is already certain is that the author of the two stab wounds will never be tried before an assize court. “And this because the young person is under 16 years old. He will be prosecuted in juvenile court..”
No resurgence of youth violence
This fatal stabbing between young people is a reminder the identical scene that occurred last Thursday in the center of Namur. Asked regarding a possible increase in cases of violence between young people, the Charleroi prosecutor’s office refutes. “It is mostly coincidences and circumstances that suggest this, but we have no evidence to say that there is an increase.”
