Jashin-chan Dropkick tries to combat illegal clipping on YouTube — Kudasai

As previously announced, the third season of the anime Jashin-chan Dropkick (Dropkick On My Devil!) immediately became a trend in networks because it has the participation of the virtual idol of Vocaloid, Hatsune Miku. But not only that, it turns out that the production is trying to fight against an internet practice: illegal clipping.

It is strictly prohibited to cut a segment of an anime series (i.e. clip) and upload it to platforms such as YouTube. The production knew this would happen from the moment Hatsune Miku would appear in the anime, so they rushed to upload the segment on YouTube themselves right after the episode aired.

The same thing happened later, with a second scene where Miku also appears.

The practice seems to have paid off, at least within the Japanese public, as both videos are close to over a million views. However, they made a rookie mistake: they put the title in Japanese, which practically no one abroad was going to find. Therefore, an illegal upload of the same fragment uploaded by the channel “YORnime“, with an English title, already has more than 8 million views.

The same thing happened with the legal raise made by Crunchyrollwho distributes the series in the West, and which has barely exceeded 800 thousand reproductions.

Certainly illegal clipping is a reprehensible practice if the production itself is in charge of sharing the segments that the public wants to see. Some even try to circumvent YouTube’s copyright system by adding breaks to scenes with “meme segments” that quickly become unfunny and tiresome for those who simply want to watch a scene from an anime.

Despite all the negatives mentioned above, the production of Jashin-chan Dropkick is satisfied with the results obtained., since in a recent update they mentioned that the franchise’s official YouTube channel had increased the number of views by 685% in the last twenty-eight days. It may be an unremarkable increase considering the scale, but they are the first steps in what is expected to be a new stage in YouTube clipping trends.

Sinopsis de Jashin-chan Dropkick

The demon Jashin-chan has been summoned to Earth by Yurine Hanazono, a girl with a gift for the occult. Unfortunately, Yurine doesn’t really know how to send Jashin-chan back to hell. Now stuck on Earth, she must live in Yurine’s apartment as her familiar. The only way for Jashin-chan to return would be to kill her summoner, but that’s easier said than done for the incompetent demoness. Since Jashin-chan is immortal and can regenerate her body, Yurine doesn’t hold back from attacking her with a variety of weapons, punishing her in horrible ways for her evil plans. Jashin-chan is also often visited by her demon friends: the good-natured Gorgon Medusa and the energetic minotaur Minosu, who seem much more polite in contrast, and disapprove of her plans to kill Yurine.
