Jarren Duran leads American League wins and is the MVP of the All-Star Game

Mexican Jarren Duran hit a two-run homer to seal the American League’s 5-3 victory over the National League in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, held this Tuesday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

With the victory obtained at the Rangers’ home stadium, the American (48-44) maintains its dominance over the National (44-48).

Durán, who finished the game with one run scored and two RBIs, was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of the Major League All-Star game, joining Dominican Pedro Martínez (1999) as the only members of the Red Sox to win that distinction.

Prior to the start of the game, Dominican Adrian Beltre, who will be inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday the 21st, threw out the honorary pitch, accompanied on the mound by legendary former Rangers players Nolan Ryan and Fergie Jenkins, while he was also received by baseball immortal, Puerto Rican Ivan Rodriguez.

Ohtani’s home run

Japanese Shohei Ohtani opened the scoring by hitting a three-run homer off Red Sox pitcher Tanner Houck in the third inning.

With his homer, the Dodgers star player brought home Curacao’s Jurickson Profar and Dominican Ketel Marte to put the National League ahead (0-3) and in the process became the first player to get a win (2021) and hit a home run (2024) in the Major League All-Star game.

The American League responded in the bottom of that same third inning, scoring three runs, the first two driven in by Dominican Juan Soto, who hit a double to center field, driving in Marcus Semien and Steven Kwan.

Soto then scored the tying run (3-3) on a single to left field by David Fry off right-hander Logan Webb.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the fifth inning, when with two outs, and following a hit by Venezuelan Anthony Santander, Duran hit the ball out of the park in front of Hunter Greene, to put the team led by the current MLB champion, Bruce Bochy, in the lead (5-3).

A feat for the Mexican

With his homer, Duran became the first Red Sox player to hit a home run in the All-Star Game since his countryman Adrian Gonzalez in the 2011 edition.

The win went to reliever Mason Miller (1-0), who struck out two in a scoreless inning, and the loss went to Greene (0-1), who allowed two runs in one inning on the mound.

The save went to Emmanuel Clase (1), who struck out two opponents to complete the ninth without any runs.

For the American League, right-hander Seth Lugo pitched one inning with one strikeout.

Among the old circuit pitchers, Dominican Christopher Sanchez pitched two-thirds of an inning without a score and his compatriot Reynaldo Lopez completed a third without a score, while Venezuelan Robert Suarez struck out both men he faced. Venezuelan Ranger Suarez did not see any action.

For the American League, Dominican Soto left with two RBIs and one run scored, and his countrymen Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and José Ramírez failed in two visits to the plate.

More Latinos

Cuban Álvarez did not have any official at-bats, while Venezuelan Santander achieved a hit with one run scored and his compatriot Salvador Pérez struck out in an appearance with the bat.

Mexican Isaac Paredes and Puerto Rican Willi Castro failed in one turn with the bat.

In the National League, Curacao’s Profar and Dominican Marte scored one run each, Dominican Elly de la Cruz also had a hit in two at-bats and his compatriots Teoscar Hernández and Marcell Ozuna, as well as Venezuelan William Contreras and Puerto Rican Heliot Ramos all went without a hit.
