Tokyo ∙ Japan has instructed the army to prepare to stop North Korea’s missile attack. Japan is stepping up defense measures following North Korea announced that it is ready to launch its first military spy satellite.
Destroyers equipped with SM-3 missile interceptors and military units capable of operating PAC-3 missiles have been ordered to deploy to Japan’s southwestern region of Okinawa and nearby islands, Japanese Defense Minister Yasukasu Hamada announced. It is also recommended to take necessary measures to reduce the damage caused by ballistic missile attacks.
North Korea tested ballistic missiles in 2012 and 2016. Both these missiles flew over the Okinawa region. Japanese media reported that similar preparations were made by the Ministry of Defense in 2012. North Korea did not release a date for the missile launch.
