Japanese company Toyota cuts global production to 750,000 cars

Tokyo – Egypt today

Toyota had intended to produce more than 900,000 vehicles per month for the next few months, but from April to June, it will reduce its global production to an average of 750,000-800,000 vehicles per month. Toyota describes the move as a “deliberate halt.” Therefore, Toyota decided to reduce its production next April from 750,000 instead of 900,000 cars, as it slows its race to compensate for increased production earlier in the year.

“By doing so, we will create healthy work environments that place the highest priority on safety and quality, rather than overstepping the capacities of factories and production units, pushing people to their limits, and doing overtime,” Toyota explained. “We will then inform our suppliers of plans that include production cut risks and other factors up to three months in advance, review production plans on a monthly and three month basis, and share those plans with our suppliers.

Toyota has acknowledged that due to semiconductor shortages, ongoing COVID-19 risks, and various other factors, it is difficult for it to look ahead several months and says there is a possibility that its production plan will be lower. It will see production changes at Toyota’s TSUTSUMI plant where the Corolla Sport and Camry are manufactured, with production temporarily halting on April 4 and April 5.

The Tahara plant, which produces Lexus LS, IS, RC, RC F and NX cars, will also be temporarily closed on April 4 and 5.

Production at the Miata plant will cease on 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 18 and 19. As the Lexus NX, NX PHEV, CT, UX, and UX BEV are being built, the second production line at the Miata plant will be paused on April 1, affecting the Lexus ES and RX.

Toyota halted production on two production lines at its Iwate plant on April 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 16 and 23. This will affect C-HR, Aqua, Yaris and Yaris Cross. Last but not least, the Fujimatsu plant where production of Noah and VOXY will be halted on April 1-4.
