The Asian Championship track competition was held in Rayong, Thailand over a total of six days. On the final day, the Japanese team competed in the Elite Women’s Omnium, Elite Men’s Omnium, Elite Women’s 500m Time Trial, Junior Women’s Elimination, and Junior Men’s Elimination.

Omnium is an individual competition that consists of four events: scratch, tempo race, elimination, and point race, and the player with the most points wins. Hideya Hashimoto participated in the men’s elite, finished 3 events and won the gold medal in the final point race from 4th place. “We were able to win three crowns at this Asian Championship. Especially at the last Omnium, we won the championship in a big comeback. It’s all thanks to everyone who really supported us. Yumi Kajiwara, who has already won Team Pursuit, Scratch, and Madison, participated in the Elite Women’s Omnium that followed. Kajiwara, who was 1st in scratch, tempo race, and elimination, accumulated points in her final event, the point race, and won 4 crowns, the most among Japanese athletes.

“I think I was able to have a lot of fun and drive aggressively,” said Kajiwara. Regarding the World Championships to be held in Glasgow, Scotland in August this year, he said enthusiastically, “I will do my best to aim for the gold medal.”

Aki Sakai, who participated in the elite women’s 500m time trial, improved the Japanese record she set in the qualifying rounds to win the bronze medal with a time of 34.273 seconds. Misaki Okamoto won the gold medal in the Junior Women’s Elimination and Kento Kanai won the gold medal in the Men’s Junior Elimination. The Japanese national team, which has become a medal rush at the Asian Championships, has gained momentum for the World Championships in August.
