Japan reopened its market to Paraguayan stevia

After finishing the hearing, Vice Minister Gauto reported at a press conference that a Paraguayan delegation made up of representatives of the National Chancellery, the National Service for Quality and Plant and Seed Health (SENAVE) held meetings with the authorities of the Ministry of Agriculture , Forest and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) occasion when the decision was made to reopen the market for the Paraguayan product, after several years of closure.

In April, Japanese technicians will come to carry out the sanitary procedure for processing stevia, a preliminary step to granting the favorable course to open the Japanese market to national production.

For his part, the President of the FAS stated that the mission of the Japanese technicians in Paraguay is the next step, for the issuance of the opinion within a period of 35 to 40 days, which will grant the license to our country for export.

The Japanese market will import all national production. He estimates an average of 600 to 700 tons per year, which would generate an income between 1 million and 1 million 500 thousand dollars.

He explained that the yield productivity ranges between 1,500 to 2,500 tons per hectare, and that currently there are varieties that exceed 5,000 to 6,000 kilos per hectare.

Finally, Vice Minister Gauto stated that they will use extreme resources so that Paraguayan stevia can be exported to the European market.
