“Japan-Korean Parliamentarians Federation, Ask President Yoon for Understanding of Discharge of Contaminated Water”

NHK reported that the Japan-Korea Parliamentary Federation, a group of Japanese non-partisan lawmakers, asked President Yoon Seok-yeol for understanding today regarding the marine discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

President Yoon met at a hotel in downtown Tokyo this morning with officials from political organizations that support exchanges and friendship between the two countries, such as the Japan-Korea Parliamentary Federation, the Japan-Korea Friendship Association, and the Japan-Korea Cooperation Committee.

According to reports, at this meeting, the Japan-Korea Parliamentary Federation asked President Yoon for an understanding of the plan to dilute the contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant to a concentration below the standard and discharge it to the sea.

NHK reported that President Yoon expressed his intention to value the scientific and objective opinion of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, who is scheduled to take office as the president of the Japan-Korea Parliamentary Federation, also attended the event.

According to Kyodo News, former Prime Minister Suga also explained that ″a plan is underway in cooperation with the IAEA″ on the issue of the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, and President Yoon stated that ″a scientific analysis is needed.″
