Japan has denounced and expressed its refusal of the participation of the “polisario” separatists in the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD-VIII), which is being held on August 27 and 28 in Tunis.
The Japanese delegation made a statement during the deliberations of the first plenary session of the TICAD-VIII summit, in which it reaffirmed that “TICAD is a forum for discussion on the development of Africa” and that “the presence of any entity, which Japan does not recognize as a sovereign state, at TICAD 8-related meetings, including the Senior Officials Meeting and the Summit Meeting, does not affect Japan’s position regarding the status of such entity.” .
This declaration confirms the position already expressed many times by Tokyo according to which the invitations to the Summit, which were to come exclusively and jointly from Tunisia and Japan, were sent only to States officially recognized by Tokyo and not sanctioned by the African Union.
The Japanese delegation was thus challenged by the host country, which unilaterally took the liberty of accrediting the puppet entity in the face of a regrettable and unworthy fait accompli which seriously undermined the solemnity and serenity which were to mark this important meeting. and expected from the Japan/Africa partnership.
Japan had also officially marked on August 19, 2022 its categorical and unequivocal rejection of the invitation which had been issued the day before by the African Union Commission to the separatist entity to attend the summit, in violation of the procedure duly agreed, and let it be known that it was in no way binding on him.
Tunisia, in its capacity as host country, has moreover given no consideration to the refusals thus expressed by Japan.
Morocco had decided not to participate in the 8th TICAD Summit, which is being held in Tunisia on August 27 and 28, and to immediately recall for consultation the Ambassador of HM the King in Tunis “following the attitude of this country in the framework of the process of the Japan-Africa cooperation forum which blatantly confirms its hostility towards the Kingdom”.
