Japan: A train driver turns off the lights to provide a magnificent spectacle in the maple tunnel

A viral video shows the conductor of a train taking care to put his passengers in the best conditions to enjoy the view on the Kurama line, known as the “maple tunnel”.

The driver of the Eizan Electric Railway might be jaded following years of seeing this autumn spectacle, but he’s not.

After a 20-minute ride from Demachiyangi Station near Kyoto, the train reaches an area between Ichihara Station and Ninose Station. Over 250 meters there are 280 maple trees bordering the train tracks on either side. This Japanese maple forest turns into a fiery forest full of red, orange, yellow colors in autumn.

To provide a better view of this spectacle, the train driver turns off the lights which allows the landscape to stand out more.

Minato Fumituki had posted this video on Twitter in November 2021 but it resurfaced today and quickly went viral, reaching 1.1 million views and 41,000 likes.
