World number one Jannik Sinner managed to overcome Alex de Minaur’s challenge after Taylor Fritz beat Daniil Medvedev who performed brilliantly on the opening day of the ATP Finals.
Sinner, playing at home in Turin, Italy, won 6-3, 6-4 to extend his perfect record over the seventh seed from Australia.
Previously, American (US) tennis player Fritz recorded his 50th win this year by beating Medvedev 6-4, 6-3 during the group stage of the season-ending tournament.

“I am very happy with the way I played today,” said Fritz as quoted by the BBC, Monday (11/11).
Fourth seed Medvedev committed seven double faults in a tight opening set in the Ilie Nastase Group, including two consecutive double faults to give Fritz set point.
Capping off a poor service game, the Russian double-faulted again, and reacted angrily to falling behind by smashing his racket into the seat and the ground.

Early in the second set, Medvedev had his first break point of the match, but his backhand hit the net.
Both players failed to convert subsequent break points before fifth seed Fritz, 27, capitalized on his third break point, with a misfired lob that landed on the baseline.
An annoyed Medvedev then received a one-point penalty after he damaged a courtside microphone by throwing his racket.

When his behavior was revealed, he was booed by the crowd for his behavior, which included holding a racket by his head as he waited to receive a serve.
“I’m angry, frustrated. This time completely at myself, not at anyone. Only at myself,” Medvedev said.
Fritz easily served his preferred service, but he said that, regardless of his opponent’s behavior, he could not rest until his victory was confirmed.
“Sometimes it’s very easy when someone is doing that to relax and think they’re going to finish, and then you lower your level,” Fritz said.
“I had to stay focused and play a good game, because he was going to fight. I played a great game.” (Z-1)
