Wuhan : Chinese scientist says that the Covid-19 virus may have originated from humans. Tong Yigang of Beijing University of Chemical Technology came up with the new argument. It is generally believed that the virus spread to humans from the Wuhan market.
The genetic sequences of samples of the virus collected from the Huanan seafood market in Wuhan were almost identical to those of the samples of patients infected with Covid. In this case, the scientist concluded that the virus may have originated from humans.
Tong Yigang said at a press conference that scientists collected 1,300 environmental and frozen animal samples from the Wuhan market from January to March 2020. Three strains of the virus were then isolated from environmental samples.
The scientist also denied a recent study that suggested the origin of the covid virus was raccoon dogs. At the same time, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention researcher Zhou Li, who attended the press conference, said that Wuhan, the place where Covid was first discovered, may not be the place where it originated.
Scientists around the world are asking for data from China to understand the origin of the Covid-19 virus. Earlier, the WHO also criticized China for not sharing enough information. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Organization, said that if China provided information, it would be possible to find out how the virus originated.
