Janmabhumi | Actress Sumalatha MP declares support for BJP; Congress suffered a setback in Karnataka

Bengaluru: Former Malayalam movie heroine and independent MP from Karnataka Sumalatha has declared her support for BJP. Ahead of the upcoming Karnataka assembly elections, Congress leader D.K. has brought some former BJP MLAs to the Congress camp. The new stand of Sumalatha, who was earlier a part of the Congress, is a huge setback for Shivakumar. In Karnataka, which has 224 members, assembly elections will be held in May 2024.

Sumalatha Ambarish announced her full support to Narendra Modi at a press conference in Mandya on Friday. Sumalatha said that this decision was prompted by the stability that India has got and the fame that India has gained all over the world. “The prime minister might have chosen Bengaluru or Mysore as the venue for the inauguration. But by choosing Mandya, the prime minister was trying to highlight the importance of this district.” Sumalatha Ambarish said.

Sumalatha Ambarish said in Mandya on Friday that she gives her full support to Narendra Modi. Sumalatha said that this decision was prompted by the stability that India has got and the fame that India has gained all over the world.

The Prime Minister might have chosen Bengaluru or Mysore as the venue for the inauguration. But by choosing Mandya, the Prime Minister tried to point out the importance of this district.

Sumalatha Ambarish said. Mandya needs a change. There is a bad atmosphere here. Let’s start a Swachh Bharat Mission in Mandya first. – said Sumatala.

Late Kannada actor Ambarish, who was Sumalatha’s husband, was earlier a Congress leader. He was successively an MP from Mandya in Karnataka. After Ambarish’s death, Sumalatha Ambarish, who contested in the by-elections held in Mandya, was nominated as an independent candidate by JDS leader H.D. Kumaraswamy’s son was defeated. HD Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Kumaraswamy defeated Sumalatha Mandya by 1.25 lakh votes. Earlier, Ambareesh has contested three consecutive MPs since 1998 and won on Congress ticket. He became Union Minister of State once. But following his death Sumalatha contested as an independent candidate when she was ignored by the Congress. BJP had also given support from outside then.

Narendra Modi will speak at Mandya on March 12 as part of Bengaluru-Mysuru Express Highway. A road show will be held here for a distance of 15 km. Sumalatha, who is also the MP from Mandya, will participate in this.

In Karnataka, where the election discussions are active, there was a strong rumor that Sumalatha would join the BJP. After this, Sumalatha announced her support to the BJP in the assembly elections.

Meanwhile, the BJP leadership has released the list of Karnataka election management committee and campaign committee members. Chief Minister Besavaraj Bomme is the chairman of the committee. Former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa and his son Vijayendra, who retired from election politics, are members of the campaign committee. Union Agriculture Minister Shobha Karandlaje is in charge of the management committee.
