The next documentary dedicated to Janet Jackson promises to be rich in secrets. In a new trailer for Janet available on
YouTube, the singer addresses her brother, Michael Jackson, and in particular the accusations of pedophilia that weigh on the late king of pop since the 1990s.
If Janet Jackson has always stood up for her, she is clearly paying the price, since she considers herself “guilty by association” in the eyes of the public. “That’s what they say, right? She adds.
The weight of the surname
The interpreter of That’s the Way Love Goes also discusses “Nipplegate”, when Justin Timberlake showed one of her breasts by ripping her costume off on the Super Bowl stage in 2004. Unlike her colleague, she was vilified by the media, industry and the public for this scandal. “They craft you, and once you get it right, they’re very quick to destroy you,” she says.
Janet Jackson also talks regarding her childhood, and how Joe Jackson “gave up his role as a father to bring them into the recording industry”. “At times, I did not understand where my place was,” says the singer, while we see images of the Jackson 5 and her as a child. “We went under the microscope when we have this last name. My father was very strict. He was in charge of my life and my career, ”says the artist, who became a mother in 2017.
Janet has been in the works since 2018 and will air on Lifetime in the US on January 28. Several relatives and collaborators took part, in particular his mother, Katherine Jackson, as well as Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey or Samuel L. Jackson.
