Jan van Aken (Die Linke): "We want to listen to people" – Braunschweiger Zeitung

Welcome to the Stage of Politics: The Left’s New Energy!

Halle/Bonn – Let’s dive into this whirlpool of political excitement, shall we?

Jan van Aken – the party chairman of The Left and the man with the hair that could definitely start a conversation at a family reunion – has declared that his party is buzzing with a “completely different energy” than just a year or two ago. Gosh, that must be one heck of an energy drink, right? The party has undergone a makeover that would put even the most dramatic reality TV show to shame. Recently, he was elected alongside Ines Schwerdtner with a whopping 88% of the vote at the party conference in Halle. Did you hear that? That’s not just polling; that’s a standing ovation in the world of politics!

The excitement is palpable. Van Aken claims, “The party is so much more lively than I previously thought.” It’s like he walked into a zombie apocalypse and found a rave instead! Many new activists have joined the grassroots movement, so it sounds like The Left has finally found their call from the wild, or, as they call it, ‘the electoral wilderness’! These keen new recruits are not just twiddling their thumbs; they’re eager to roll up their sleeves and get dirty in the election campaign. If only the rest of us were as excited about politics as they are about, say, a new season of “The Great British Bake Off.”

The plan? Well, brace yourselves, folks, because The Left is going door-to-door trying to get a sense of “where does the shoe really pinch?” Sounds like a game of uncomfortable hide-and-seek if you ask me. They’re rolling out “100,000 door-to-door calls throughout Germany.” And no, Van Aken isn’t coming to your door to peddle overpriced vacuum cleaners or miracle skin cream – he wants to listen. What a novel idea! Imagine a politician actually asking what you think instead of shouting over you like a bad karaoke night!

Jan humorously chimes, “I’m not coming to your house to sell something. I want to listen.” It’s refreshing to know that listening could be a part of politics! It’s like they’ve just read the manual about how to be a decent human being. But let’s face it, he’s completely right: “Hardly anyone actually listens anymore.” It’s true! You could shout “FREE CANDY!” at a party, and most politicians would still be stuck on denying your request for a raise!

And what’s he going to do with all this listening? Well, I’ll tell you – they’re going to evaluate it systematically. Just remember, if you hear a knock at your door, it’s not the FBI looking for your Wi-Fi password; it’s The Left looking for answers. They’ll find out “what the problem is, where people say, if that’s solved, I’ll feel better.” Sounds simple enough. I wonder how they would fare at my place when I tell them the world’s biggest issue is that there’s no such thing as *too much* cake!

So, if you’re itching for more drama and insightful political commentary, be sure to catch the full interview on Phoenix. It’s sure to be a thrilling rollercoaster, complete with electoral loops and unexpected turns!

And remember, folks, politics doesn’t have to be a slog. It can be enlightening, entertaining, and – dare I say – downright fun with the right dose of cheek and observational humor!

Halle/Bonn.

Jan van Aken (The Left) is experiencing a “completely different energy in his party than it was a year or two ago.” The party chairman, who was newly elected alongside Ines Schwerdtner at the party conference in Halle with 88 percent of the vote, said in an interview with the television station Phoenix: “The party is so much more lively than I previously thought.” Many new activists have joined the grassroots. “They’re doing a lot, they’re already looking forward to the election campaign.” And you can feel that at the party conference.

The first thing we want to do is find out from people: “Where does the shoe really pinch?” That’s why the Left will start as soon as possible with “100,000 door-to-door calls throughout Germany.” You listen very carefully, evaluate it systematically and then see “what the problem is, where people say, if that’s solved, I’ll feel better,” says Jan van Aken. “I’m not coming to your house to sell something. I want to listen.” Because you hear that from a lot of people: “Hardly anyone actually listens anymore.”
