Jan Hercog: Conquering the Turbulence of Open Water Swimming and Relocating for World Championships

Jan Hercog is used to turbulence from open water swimming. An elbow here, a foot there, a black eye here – nothing new for him. But last year was turbulent and mixed for the Styrian swimmer in a very special way: following four years he gave up his tent in Würzburg and pitched a new one in Halle an der Saale (GER). The preparation for the World Championships in Japan, during which he swims the ten-kilometer event on Sunday and the five-kilometer event on Tuesday, was “not without it,” he admits.
