Known to Quebecers for his controversial party aboard a Sunwing plane during the pandemic, James William Awad will once once more have to dig into his pockets for illegally operating a fitness center in Laval.
The Consumer Protection Office (OPC) announced Monday that the Astrofit Gym training center in Laval and its president, Sarah Anton, were fined a few thousand dollars for carrying out “studio activities of health without holding the permit required by law.”
The company and its president pleaded guilty last October to the charges brought once morest them by the OPC. The acts with which they were accused took place in March 2022.
The training center, which was located on Francis-Hughes Avenue in Laval, has since closed its doors.
At the Business Registrar, James William Awad is registered as the administrator of the Astrofit Gym in Laval. The company was fined $6,000, while its president will have to pay $1,097.
This is the third time since September that James William Awad and Sarah Anton have been fined for illegally operating a fitness center.
In September, they were respectively ordered to pay fines of $6,000 and $3,000 for operating the Astrofit Gym RDP, located in east Montreal.
The following month, they received similar fines for operating the Astrofit Gym in Blainville.
“The merchant who operates a health studio must hold a permit issued by the Office and provide a bond of $20,000 for each of his establishments. This bond serves to guarantee compliance with the law and can be used to compensate consumers in the event of closure of the business,” the Consumer Protection Office said in a press release.
