James Rodriguez would not go to Europe and would stay in South America: River Plate would be his new team | Colombians Abroad

Although everything seemed to indicate that James Rodríguez would have his future in the old continent, apparently, everything has changed in the last few hours and his destination would no longer be any team in Italy or Spain.

The Colombian, chosen as the best player of the 2024 Copa América, would be interested in wearing the River Plate jersey, a historic Argentine club and one of the most important and representative on the South American continent.

Marcelo Gallardo has returned to the bench of the club and is now looking to strengthen the squad in the best way possible. James is reportedly in his plans and has even contacted him.

James Rodriguez is rumored to play for River Plate

According to journalist Gabriel Anello of Radio Mitre, the coach would have contacted the number 10 of the Colombian National Team directly to tell him about the sporting project with the aim of persuading him to join the club.

“James is one step away. Gallardo’s phone call was crucial. Gallardo called him on the phone,” the journalist reported.

It is worth mentioning that Anello was the same one who anticipated the arrival of Marcelo Gallardo to River Plate for a new cycle.

If he joins the red-and-white club, it would be the second team to welcome Rodríguez after being part of Banfield during his formative years before making the leap to the European continent.
