Gill Catchpole, the partner of British singer James Morrison (39), has died at the age of 45. The woman, with whom Morrison has two daughters, was found dead last Friday at the family home in Whitminster, Gloucestershire, southwest England.
The circumstances are still unclear, but according to British media it is assumed that the cause of death was natural. A family friend tells The Sun that James is “devastated” and is being supported by friends and family during this difficult time. “He pulled himself together for the girls, but asked that the family be left alone.” The two daughters Elise and Ada are fifteen and five years old.
“Gill was a lovely woman”
Gill Catchpole ran his own café in the town of Whitminster. It was closed on Saturday afternoon and police cars could be seen in front of it, the article continues. A local described how great the shock was throughout the village after the news spread. “Gill was a lovely woman and they were a beautiful family.”
The couple met when Morrison was still building his music career. There was an immediate connection between the two and he started singing his songs to her, he said in an earlier interview with “The Sun”.
Today the 39-year-old has sold over seven million records. He is known, among other things, for his hits “You Give Me Something” and “Broken Strings”. In 2007 he won the Brit Award and released three top 10 albums, two of which went to number one.

The singer dedicated the album “You’re Stronger Than You Know” to his daughter Ada, who was born 13 weeks prematurely. At the time he told The Sun: “Luckily I can look back and now everything is sweet and rosy.” Fearing for their premature baby would have brought him and Gill even closer together.
The death of his partner is not the only difficult loss that Morrison has had to cope with so far. In 2010, his father Paul, who was an alcoholic, died. The singer also lost his older brother Alexis and his nephew Callum, who was just 21 years old. “Alexis and Callum died just a year apart. “After my father died, it was heartbreaking to lose the next generations,” he told the British newspaper.
