ACTOR James McAvoy has revealed that he turned down the role of Tom Riddle in the Harry Potter films when he was young.
The 45-year-old actor said that at the time, he was offered a lot of money for the role, but he was advised not to take it because of the uncertainty of his future involvement in the franchise.
“The first film, I think it was Tom Riddle. He was like for a flashback scene or something. I auditioned for that and I think they wanted to put me in as a role that could be played later on even though there was no certainty,” McAvoy said, as reported by Mirror.
“It’s crazy, I barely did any work and they wanted to put me in that position so they could hold us back and keep us picking later,” he continued.
The actor who is famous for the films Split, Glass, X-Men, and many more added that even though the money offered was quite tempting, he was more concerned with advancing his career at that time.
“For me, at the time, it was a lot of money, like £40,000 or something, and I was just doing a bit of work. But I couldn’t do any work for about seven months,” he said.

After turning down the offer, McAvoy instead took less lucrative theater work. However, it was this that shaped him as an actor.
“I ended up doing drama. I was paid £275 a week. But it was part of my formation, and I really got what acting meant. I really studied and did all that,” he said.
Despite the buzz surrounding a Harry Potter adaptation, McAvoy doesn’t seem too keen on getting involved.
“I don’t think I’m good enough to do a sci-fi movie, just because I like it. I don’t think I’m good enough to do comedy either,” he concluded. (Z-1)
