Gamal Allam, head of the Egyptian Football Association, confirmed the possibility of a mistake and a rush – as he described it – regarding the contract with Ihab Galal to take over the training of the Egyptian national team during the current period.
Allam indicated, in statements to the Sada Al-Balad channel, that the decision to contract with Ihab Jalal came in light of the absence of foreign currency in the treasury of the Football Association, pointing out that it was difficult to contract with a foreign coach.
Allam said: “When Cooper was bad, everyone attacked him, when Queiroz was bad, everyone attacked him, but with Ihab Jalal, everyone attacks the Football Association. Everyone is sad regarding what happened in the Ethiopia match, but I do not know the reason for this attack on us.”
He continued: “If the General Assembly wanted us to leave and asked us to do so, we would leave immediately, when everyone asked to sign an Egyptian coach, we met this request, but he is under attack in his first 10 days.”
He added: “Is the president of the Football Association the one who is on the field, did we rush to choose Ihab Jalal? This is possible, but there can be a course correction. Queiroz at the beginning had mistakes too.”
And he added: “We are working to hire a technical director of the federation to take us out of what we are in, it will be from the Belgian school, but on the condition that we bear what he will ask us to make his plan successful, and if he asks us to wait for two or three years, I am ready for that, but that he takes us to the right side.”
“How did we contract with Ihab Galal? We were in the board of directors meeting and we were surprised that Queiroz would not stay with us, and I called the finance official and told him (Do you have how many dollars?), and he answered (I don’t have), so we decided to sign an Egyptian coach, (Will we pay the foreigner from where?!) “.
And he concluded: “Ihab Jalal’s salary is 725,000 pounds? Yes, it is true, but I do not want to tell you how much he was getting paid while he was with Pyramids, and I put him in comparison with what he is currently receiving. Will Queiroz agree to return with this same salary following he was getting 120 thousand? dollar?”.
