Jamaican Jackson shines in the 200m in 21.55 seconds

Sprinter Shericka Jackson set the third-fastest time in history in the 200m at the Jamaican Track and Field Trials in Kingston on Sunday. The 27-year-old won in 21.55 seconds ahead of Olympic champions Elaine Thompson-Herah (22.05) and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (22.14). Only the late US-American Florence Griffith Joyner, who set the still valid world record of 21.34 seconds in 1988, and Thompson-Herah (21.53) were faster.

Jackson, who won bronze in the 100m at the Tokyo Olympics, wasn’t entirely happy with her performance. “In the next three weeks we will correct all the mistakes I made. I expect bigger things,” said the Jamaican.

At the US Championships in Eugene/Oregon, Abby Steiner completed the 200 m in a strong 21.77 seconds. World champion Noah Lyles ran the same distance in the men’s race in 19.67, winning two hundredths ahead of just 18-year-old Erriyon Knighton.
