Jam: Spotify launches desktop play queue sharing

2024-03-15 00:20:07

O Jamresource of Spotify which makes it possible to share the playback queue between multiple users of the platform, was launched today on desktop apps service — among which, obviously, is the app for macOS.

With Jam, there is no need to share an individual link to a song or even make a collaborative playlist to suit everyone’s tastes at a party or when working together with friends.

To use the feature on the desktop, simply right-click on a song or playlist and select the “Start a Jam” option — an option that is also available on the Now Playing screen or in the play queue on the right.

Once a Jam has started, the queue will open (now on the right side of the app) and anyone invited can control playback. The invitation, as on iOS, can be accessed via link or even by scanning a QR code.

Also available by default are options to add a song to the queue or change it at any time. The user who created the Jam, however, can prevent others from changing the playback, leaving only the addition option open.

A Jam session, it is worth remembering, can only be started by Premium users. Spotify for Mac can be downloaded on this page.

Update approval in Europe

Spotify doesn’t live on new releases alone. In an eternal fight with Applethe platform sent an email to the European Commission today stating that Maçã did not respond to its most recent request to update the app in the bloc’s countries.

The company, it is worth remembering, took advantage of the fine imposed against Apple recently in the European Union to add information about subscription prices and links to out-of-app purchases in the app, sending the update with the news for review by the App Store team.

A spokesperson for the platform stated to The Verge that 9 days have passed since the update was sent — which is in line with the App Store’s standard review duration, which does not usually exceed 24 hours.

“Given Apple’s track record, Spotify is concerned that Apple’s delay is intentional and intended to delay or completely avoid compliance,” reads an excerpt from the email in question.

Wanted by The VergeApple chose not to comment on the case, but has already publicly revealed that it will appeal against the EU fine — which is an indication that, at least for now, this app update will not be approved.
