Japan Airlines (JAL) has unveiled the first state-of-the-art Airbus A350-1000, aircraft designation: JA01WJ, which will be launched on the Haneda/New York (JFK) route from Wednesday, January 24, 2024. The aircraft, which was delivered at the Airbus factory in Toulouse, France, will depart from Toulouse on the followingnoon of December 14, 2023 (local time) and is expected to arrive at Haneda Airport on the morning of the 15th.

The much-anticipated cabin interior is also unveiled for the first time. The high-quality guest rooms are imbued with traditional Japanese beauty throughout, and are designed to be highly comfortable as the new flagship. The cabin has a total of 239 seats, including 6 first class seats, 54 business class seats, 24 premium economy class seats, and 155 economy class seats.

Doors are installed to increase privacy, but the absence of storage shelves above the seats creates an overall open atmosphere. The height of the private room wall is approximately 157cm (62 inches). In addition to having luggage storage space and a wardrobe, the personal screen is equipped with a 43-inch 4K monitor. The seat pitch is approximately 211 cm (83 inches), the seat width is approximately 123 cm (48 inches) at maximum, and the bed length is approximately 203 cm (80 inches) at maximum, ensuring plenty of space. For the first time in this class, each seat has a door, creating a private room. The height of the private room walls is approximately 132 cm (52 ​​inches). In bed mode, the bed length is approximately 198 cm (78 inches), providing a comfortable sleeping experience with cushions that disperse body pressure. Along with First Class, we introduced the “world’s first” built-in headrest speakers that do not require headphones. The reclining headrest allows you to watch in-flight entertainment while lying down. In addition, we have installed an electric privacy partition in the center seat so that passengers can communicate with their fellow passengers when seated side by side.

Overhead baggage storage bins, which have been abolished in first class, are only installed near the windows. It can be used in conjunction with the wardrobe and luggage storage space provided in the private room. Seats are manufactured by the British company Safran Seat GB, which is the same as First Class.

The world’s first electric reclining function for Premium Economy Class. There is also an electric leg rest function that can be adjusted until it is parallel to the seat surface, allowing you to relax in any position. The seat pitch is approximately 107cm (42 inches), and a 16-inch 4K large screen monitor is installed, which is 1.3 times the size of the previous model. Large partitions have been installed between seats to increase privacy. The seat was manufactured by the French company Safran Seat France.

JAL’s economy class, which has been awarded the British company SKYTRAX’s “Best Economy Class Airline Seat” for six consecutive years, has improved its comfort even on the state-of-the-art A350-1000. The seat pitch is approximately 84 to 86 cm (33 to 34 inches), creating a comfortable living space with wide front and rear spacing. The width between the armrests is approximately 46 cm (18 inches) *excluding some seats. A large 13-inch 4K screen monitor, which is approximately 1.3 times the size of the previous model, is also installed.

On the Haneda/New York (JFK) route, which will begin service from Wednesday, January 24, 2024, only one aircraft, the first JA01WJ, will be operated, so it will be introduced every other day on daytime flights JL006/005. Boeing 777-300ER aircraft will continue to be used on days of the week when flights other than JA01WJ and night flights JL004/JL003 will be operated. Once we receive the second JA02WJ in fiscal 2023, we will deploy it on all days of the week on daytime flights JL006/005 and operate the A350-1000 daily. After receiving the third aircraft, we plan to use it on flights JL012/JL011 on the Haneda/Dallas route in addition to the daily Haneda/New York (JFK) route.
