Jakub Siemi±tkowski is dead. Tragic event in Sopot

A tragic event took place on Saturday, August 17, on the long-distance train platform in Sopot. An intercity train fatally hit a 23-year-old man who was pushed onto the tracks by a 20-year-old from Gdynia. The injured man died at the scene. The perpetrator was detained, and on Sunday the prosecutor’s office charged the man with murder.

The identity of the victim was not known until August 19 – on that day, the Polish Tennis League published a statement on its website in which it informed that Jakub Siemiątkowski, a talented tennis player and member of the Polish Tennis League, had died on the platform.

“On Saturday, the tragic news about the murder at the station in Sopot spread throughout Poland. On the same day we received information that the victim was 23-year-old Jakub Siemiątkowski, who is currently in the third hundred of the national amateur rankings of the Polish Tennis League. and a player of Team Lufa Kaszuby in the U24 position in the PLT Team Championship for amateurs. Kuba was undefeated in this competition. On behalf of the entire tennis community, we express our condolences to Kuba’s family,” we read.

In an interview with the “Fakt” daily, the deceased’s uncle revealed that on the day of his death the 23-year-old was returning from a meeting. – He was at a tennis tournament, then they had a meeting in Sopot, dinner with friends. He simply found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time – he described.

At the time of his arrest, the perpetrator of the tragedy – 20-year-old Maksymilian S. from Gdynia – had 1.8 per mille of alcohol in the exhaled air.

– The man did not admit to the charge and refused to provide explanations. He made a statement, but at the moment we are not revealing its content. The prosecutor’s office is in the process of preparing a motion for temporary arrest of the suspect, because the prosecutor will apply for the application of temporary arrest for a period of three months – said on Sunday Mariusz Duszyński from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk.

As he added, the perpetrator refused to provide explanations and his motives are not known. – The course of events, i.e. pushing a man under the train, is shown from the monitoring and the driver’s account. However, we do not know at this point what caused the perpetrator to act this way, especially since he exercised his right to refuse to provide explanations – said the prosecutor.

– The client did not plead guilty, he gave a short explanation in which he stated that it was an unfortunate accident. He did not want to kill, he had no such intention – said B³a¿ej Haber, the defense attorney of the 20-year-old suspect, quoted by the portal tvn24.pl.
