Jakarta’s air quality is still unhealthy on Tuesday morning and the public is advised to reduce outdoor activities, as stated on the IQAir page which was updated at 05.00 WIB.

IQAir recorded Jakarta’s air quality at 169 points with a PM 2.5 pollutant concentration of 80.5 micrograms per cubic meter or 16.1 times higher than the World Health Organization’s (WHO) annual air quality guideline value.

Similar air quality also occurred on Monday (19/8) with 153 points.

PM 2.5 is a particle measuring 2.5 microns (micrometers) smaller found in the air including dust, smoke and soot. Long-term exposure to these particles is often associated with the risk of premature death, especially in people with chronic heart or lung disease.

Health recommendations considering the current air quality include avoiding outdoor activities, wearing a mask when outside, closing windows to avoid dirty outside air and turning on air filters.

Jakarta, when compared to other cities in Indonesia, is recorded as being ranked second as the most polluted city in Indonesia after Tangerang (Banten) with 203 points. Meanwhile, the third position is occupied by Bogor City with 154 points.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service (DLH) continues to make serious efforts to overcome the decline in air quality in Jakarta.

This is done through the implementation of the Decree of the Governor of DKI Jakarta Number 576 of 2023 concerning the Air Pollution Control Strategy (SPPU), which is a strategic guide for the DLH and all stakeholders in improving air quality in Jakarta until 2030.

One of the efforts made by the DKI Provincial Government, namely in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), continues to carry out vehicle emission tests as an effort to reduce air pollution in Jakarta. (P-2)
