Nothing Jahiem White does is surprising at this point.
The true freshman running back just keeps getting better and better.
The York High grad has been turning heads most of this fall in his debut season at West Virginia. He rushed for over 100 yards twice in his first six games.
But he took things to another level Saturday once morest Cincinnati. White rushed for 204 yards and a touchdown on just 21 carries — averaging a stunning 9.7 yards per carry — in a 42-21 West Virginia win. He also caught a 75-yard touchdown pass.
White became the first West Virginia player to rush for 200 yards in a game since Justin Crawford in 2016. He’s now rushed for 659 yards on 80 carries and scored four total touchdowns in the eight games he’s appeared in this season. He’s averaging 8.2 yards per carry.
He’s steadily gotten more playing time as the season has progressed and has continued to live up to the hype.
Just like during his time at York High, White has remained quietly confident in college. Asked in the postgame press conference if a performance like Saturday will “sink in” the next day, White smiled and shook his head no.
“I’ve been waiting to show my talent,” he said. “Getting the start tonight was a big jump for me. I just wanted to show the world my talent.”

White has taken on a bigger role in recent weeks with West Virginia starting running back CJ Donaldson dealing with a leg injury. He rushed for 146 yards two weeks ago once morest BYU and had nine carries for 39 yards in a loss to Big 12 juggernaut Oklahoma last week.
He helped the Mountaineers rush for over 400 yards as a team once morest Cincinnati, which is 3-8 this season following making the College Football Playoff two years ago. West Virginia quarterback Garrett Greene rushed for 154 yards and three scores while passing for 210.
The Mountaineers are now 7-4 and will play in a bowl game in what was considered a make-or-break season for head coach Neal Brown. They will go on the road to play Baylor in the regular season finale next week.
White’s longest run Saturday went for 47 yards. He had 168 rushing yards following halftime, but his 75-yard scoring catch gave the Mountaineers an early 14-0 lead. He also had an 18-yard run to kickstart West Virginia’s first scoring drive.
“Once I saw green it was just a go,” he said regarding his long touchdown catch.
White enrolled at West Virginia in January following graduating early from York High and quickly established himself as a candidate for playing time. He didn’t get any playing time once morest Penn State in Week 1 while dealing with a minor injury, but rushed for 112 yards the following week once morest Duquesne.
This impressive start to his college career has come following one of the best high school careers in YAIAA history. White set York High’s program record and finished second in league history with 5,758 career yards.
White was asked Saturday if he felt particularly “unstoppable” entering the game or if he always feels that way. He didn’t hesitate to answer.
“I always feel like that,” he said with a laugh. “Standard business.”
