COINCIDING with the 19th Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival (JAFF), the festival will hold a film market for the first time, JAFF Market. JAFF Market will be a place for Indonesian film industry professionals to meet and build partnerships with each other in the business field.

In addition to production houses, JAFF Market also invites creators, intellectual property (IP) owners, communities, government agencies, brands, and film lovers to attend. Later, there will be various booths for exhibitors, to introduce various projects that have been worked on, are being produced, and will be produced. So far, there have been 50 registered exhibitors from a total quota of around 150 exhibitors.

JAFF festival director Ifa Isfansyah said that JAFF Market was present as a response from the festival in post-pandemic film navigation. After 18 years of JAFF being a festival that became a meeting point for film communities, now JAFF also wants to become a hub for its professional film industry.

“Almost all major festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, including Busan, have their event industry, in this context a film market. Not only selling films, the event industry is a meeting place for all the film ecosystems there. Possibilities that previously did not exist become available. Starting from big players, namely large studios, boutique studios, the government, all those who have declared themselves professionals in film will meet at the film market. That’s what we initiated through JAFF Market,” said Ifa Isfansyah in the JAFF Market press conference at Lucy in The Sky, Senayan Park, Jakarta, Friday, (30/8).

Some of those who will open booths and exhibit at JAFF Market include MD Pictures, Bioskop Online, Netflix, Vidio, Paragon Pictures, Magma Entertainment, Forka Films, Falcon Pictures, and Does University.

JAFF Market market director Linda Gozali added that it is hoped that this film market can accommodate the needs of the Indonesian film industry. It becomes a place for studios to find new content, and creators who have works can also meet the right potential collaborators.

“In the next 3-5 years, it is hoped that JAFF Market can become a place to meet various groups. For the first edition, we are still focusing on domestic first. We invite as many filmmakers as possible from Indonesia,” said Linda. (M-4)
