Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party’s general election countermeasures committee, who ran in Gyeyang, Incheon, was hit in the head by an iron bowl thrown by an unidentified citizen during a street campaign on the 20th.
The perpetrator was immediately arrested by the police at the scene, and it was found that Chairman Lee was not seriously injured.
According to Chairman Lee, Chairman Lee was hit by an iron bowl thrown by a citizen of the Buddha statue while walking around the shopping street at the entrance of Kachi Park in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon around 9 pm that day.
At first, Chairman Lee saw the bowl flew from the air and thought it was thrown from a shopping mall on the second floor, but it was confirmed that it was a citizen drinking alcohol at an outdoor table at a chicken restaurant who threw the bowl at Chairman Lee.
The citizen said, “I threw it” when Chairman Lee hit the bowl. Chairman Lee’s side called the police, and the citizen was immediately arrested at the scene by the police who were waiting to maintain order at the campaign site.
At the time of being hit, Chairman Lee was taking pictures with citizens, and there were women and students at the scene, so it was a situation that might lead to injuries to citizens, said Chairman Lee.
An official from Lee’s side said in a phone call with News 1, “Fortunately, Lee was not seriously injured.”
