“It stops because my father prefers to stop now”: Jacques Dutronc, 79, prematurely ended the joint tour with his son Thomas, indicated this last Thursday on RTL.
“It’s his kind of not to do too much, he prefers to be rare (…) We have the impression, we, to stop in the middle of the tour“, continues Dutronc junior. The two men therefore performed for the last time on Wednesday evening in Paris at Bercy (Accor Arena). A press release sent by the press service of the record company, entitled “Jacques Dutronc paid for his last tour“, even speaks of “Jacques’ farewell to the stage“.
Thomas is not so definitive. “I’m sure he’ll regret not continuing, because we (had) made him a show with little onions. He sang wonderfully, a truly fabulous voice“, he said on RTL. Surprise comebacks are commonplace in show biz, even at advanced ages. Michel Sardou, 75 today, had assured the Parisian that he was stopping the scene in 2021, before to announce in this same newspaper (and in other media) last November that he was going to go back there in 2023.
Jacques Dutronc had only accepted at the request of his son to leave his musical retirement in Corsica. “It’s true that he didn’t go home, to Corsica, during the whole tour”adds his son on RTL. “He stayed on the continent, it’s not easy. And then he’s going to be 80 (in April). He worries he won’t hold up“. “Either way, whatever he chose, he wouldn’t have been happy. I know him. Him, the concerts, he adores. It’s everything around it that’s a bit complicated“, concludes his son.
To mark the stop of the tour, the clip of “I am nobody (Eternal Until Tomorrow)” was posted online this Thursday. The lyrics, written by Thomas, and sung with his father, are clearly inspired by the famous dilettantism of Dutronc senior.”Me what I prefer / It’s doing nothing / Don’t believe / That it’s easy / To stay at the bar / And to keep your style“.
“Thomas is a hard worker, which is a quality, except perhaps in Corsica, with me, that’s an average“, had fun Jacques in front of the press in April, at the launch of this joint tour which was to overflow into 2023.
