ARLINGTON — The Rangers have placed Jacob deGrom on the disabled list with inflammation in his pitching elbow, the team announced Saturday, a day following the veteran right-hander abandoned his outing vs. Yankees early.

In a corresponding move, the club moved up right-hander Yerry Rodríguez from Triple-A Round Rock.

deGrom had pitched three perfect innings before faltering in the fourth. His last pitch of the night was an 89 mph slider that Willie Calhoun sent to left field for the Yankees’ first hit. He was the slower slider than deGrom in said match.

deGrom threw 28 pitches (20 of which were strikes) in the first three innings. In the fourth inning, he threw 22 pitches (12 strikes) before giving up a walk and a hit and leaving the game. Despite the injury, he went over 100 mph several times.

The pitcher left his start on April 17 once morest the Royals with a sore right wrist, but made his next start once morest the A’s on May 23.

The Rangers were well aware of deGrom’s injury history before signing him to a five-year, $185 million deal in December. The two-time Cy Young Award winner with the Mets hasn’t made more than 15 starts in a season since 2019.
