The least we can say is that seeing the pitcher Jacob deGrom on the free agent market may surprise.
Several teams seem interested in obtaining the services of the right-hander, but at what price?
In the camp of the Atlanta Braves, champions of the World Series in 2021, it would be amazing to see him. Yes, the Braves would benefit from a (healthy) Jacob deGrom, but is it worth investing in starting pitchers when the Braves rotation is fairly full?
Nor should they break the salary balance by signing a big-money pitcher. A pitcher, who, we repeat, has experienced several health problems in recent years.
Under the Texas sun
If Atlanta doesn’t seem like a top destination, Texas might be for deGrom.
However, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Rangers might turn to left-hander Carlos Rodon, rather than the 34-year-old pitcher.
According to SNY’s Andy Martino, the Mets would be interested in Justin Verlander or Japan’s Kodai Senga. Several sources confirm that he will be met by the New York formation.
However, the Mets should not be counted as defeated. They will obviously want to bring Jacob deGrom back into their ranks for next season, at a minimum.
With Aaron Judge and now Jacob deGrom, the game is wide open for an exciting off-season!
- Martin Perez will remain with the Rangers by accepting the qualifying offer offered to him.
- Speaking of Justin Verlander.
