Venezuelan rookie Jackson Chourio continues to make history in his debut season in Major League Baseball, wearing the Milwaukee Brewers uniform.

Chourio hit a two-run homer in the hops’ 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers and entered a select group of players in the Majors.

The outfielder from Zulia became only the sixth player in history to hit 15 or more home runs and 15 or more stolen bases at his age (20 years and 157 days) or younger in a single season. He is the second Venezuelan to achieve this feat, after Ronald Acuña Jr. in 2018, which was also his debut season.

In that game played at Milwaukee’s American Family Field, the right-handed batter went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs (reaching 53). His fellow countryman William Contreras was also important in the victory, as he went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and one RBI.

Numbers

Despite the fact that this is his debut season in Major League Baseball, Jackson Chourio has had the spotlight on him since Spring Training. Before the start of the season, he was even projected as a strong candidate for the Rookie of the Year award in the National League, both for his skills and for the historic multimillion-dollar contract he signed before seeing action in the Big Show.

As of August 15 (a month and a half before the end of the season), the native of Zulia has 102 hits, 15 homers, 17 doubles, 53 RBIs, 16 stolen bases and a .274 average. Experts believe that he is fulfilling what was expected of him, although in the fight for Rookie of the Year he has a strong contender in Jackson Merrill of the San Diego Padres.
