Jackie Chan to carry flame at Beijing Paralympics

Chinese actor Jackie Chan, world famous for his martial arts films, will carry the Paralympic flame on Wednesday, just before the opening of the Beijing Paralympic Games.

Chan, 70, who has 145 titles to his name, will compete in the relay in the centre of the capital, the organising committee announced on Sunday.

The Paralympic flame arrived on French soil on Sunday after passing through a tunnel under the English Channel and was lit on Saturday in Skoke Mandeville, the cradle of the global Paralympic movement.

This event not only marks a milestone in Chan’s career, but also highlights the importance of the Paralympic Games worldwide.

On the flame

The Paralympic flame, lit in Stoke Mandeville, UK, where the Paralympic movement originated, has travelled extensively to Paris. Various ceremonies and relays have taken place during its journey through France, culminating in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Paris.
