Jack Grealish’s post-Champions League celebrations in Ibiza raise concerns ahead of England’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Malta

Jack Grealish was the big player in Manchester City’s festivities following the Champions League crown. The striker, still with a bottle in hand, was seen in poor condition in Ibiza but is due to join the selection on Tuesday.

The end of the party has finally come for Jack Grealish (27). The Manchester City striker is expected this Tuesday in the English selection with his four teammates John Stones, Phil Foden, Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips. But in what state will he find the Three Lions, who face Malta on Friday (8:45 p.m.) as part of the qualifications for Euro 2024? Certainly without great freshness.

Too drunk to walk in Ibiza

Because the former Aston Villa player did not save himself in the festivities which followed the coronation of Manchester City in the Champions League, offering a historic hat-trick to the club. Already very hot on Saturday evening a few moments following the victory, the English international (31 caps, 2 goals) appeared with a bottle in hand on the vast majority of videos broadcast on social networks. The player was still wearing his match kit on Sunday when he returned to Manchester where he performed at the airport.

The festivities continued in Ibiza where a dozen players traveled on a private jet. Again, Grealish visibly continued his excesses. A front-page photo from the tabloid The Sun shows him nearly lifeless and supported by Kyle Walker and another man to get around. The newspaper assures that the attacker was then placed in a wheelchair at the airport, his condition not allowing him to walk.

Because the Ibiza troupe had to leave the party to return to Manchester on Monday to participate in the parade through the city in a double-decker bus. Perked up, Grealish still appeared boosted, always accompanied by a bottle of beer or champagne, chambering Bernardo Silva, wearing a fluorescent vest or haranguing the crowd. “The turkey needs to be fed,” he told the fans before Kalvin Phillips poured vodka into his mouth like a goose or duck gavage.

Earlier he told fans – in a broken voice – that he had had the “best days and nights” since City won before adding “I don’t think I’ve slept” since Saturday. It is in this context that he will join Gareth Southgate’s men on Tuesday. According to the Daily Mail, City players are highly unlikely to play on Friday, or even be benched. A wise precaution, especially for Jack Grealish.
