The live-action film adaptation project for the video game Minecraft advance. After Jason MomoaEmma Myers, Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Eugene Hansen, casting opens at Jack Black. The 54-year-old actor, comedian and musician previously worked with the project’s director, Jared Hess, on free nacho. Furthermore, he is not new to video game adaptations for the screen.
Jack Black played the role of Bowser in Super Mario Bros, the films (the second highest-grossing feature film of 2023). He was also in Jumanji, Next Level and will be in the action film adapted from the video game Borderlandsscheduled for August.
If we don’t know much regarding the future film Minecraft, notably who is the author of the screenplay, we do however know that Jack Black will play the character named Steve. The project has been in progress for several years and seems to have been complicated to put together, several names of directors having circulated over time, as recalled Variety.

Minecraft was created in 2011 by Swedish game designer Markus “Notch” Persson with developer Mojang Studios. Highly popular and lucrative, it is one of the “best-selling games in history and has over 140 million monthly users.” In October 2023, sales were estimated at 300 million copies. It was acquired by Microsoft in 2014 for $2.5 billion, which turned it into a multimedia franchise with games and related products.
Warner Bros, which held the rights to the film project until 2023, will produce the adaptation. Jason Momoa, with his company On The Roam, is financially involved and co-producer.
While waiting for the filming of Minecraft in New Zealand, and the release of the film scheduled for April 2025, Jack Black will continue his musical activities with a tour of Europe with his band heavy metal Tenacious D.
