Inexpensive wireless headphones for athletes

To be suitable for sports use, headphones must meet certain criteria. First, adopt an in-ear format to ensure that they stay in place despite head movements. Some people find this format uncomfortable but once positioned at the entrance to the ear canal, the Jabra Elite 3 are quickly forgotten as they are compact and light. Sports headphones must also be IP certified, which is the case for the Jabra Elite 3 which are IP55. That is to say, they are dustproof and resistant to rain and perspiration, however, they are not made to be submerged and cannot be used during a swimming session.

The Jabra Elite 3 are therefore designed for the majority of sports practiced outdoors. However, jogging in the middle of Paris with your ears sealed is suicide because of the influx of vehicles and passers-by, Jabra has therefore equipped its headphones with a transparency mode called “HearThrough”. This collects external frequencies with its four microphones (two microphones per earphone) and transmits them into the ear canal. If the result is unnatural, this mode makes it easy to follow a conversation and remain attentive to your environment.

Attractive sound but some compromises

The Jabra Elite 3 are equipped with two 6mm transducers and are compatible with the SBC and aptX Bluetooth codecs, which is quite rare in this price bracket. The sound signature of these true wireless is pleasant to listen to with an emphasis on bass, low mids and highs while the sound dynamics are of good quality. If the default sound reproduction is not suitable, it is always possible to use a semblance of equalizer available on the Jabra Sound+ application.

To be this affordable, the Jabra Elite 3 had to sacrifice active noise reduction and multipoint Bluetooth. ANC is not recommended when jogging, but it would have been welcome in a more relaxed context to listen to its best tracks in absolute calm. Finally, in terms of autonomy, the manufacturer announces a duration of 7 hours per charge and 21 additional hours thanks to the case, which is quite suitable. To fully recharge the case, it takes two hours.
