J. Miliuvienė was appointed as the controller of the Seimas

82 Seimas members voted for her appointment, one was against and three abstained. The new controller will take office after taking the oath in the Seimas.

J. Miliuvienė will be the Seimas controller to investigate the activities of officials of municipal institutions and institutions.

During her presentation in the Seimas, she emphasized that municipalities, their institutions and their officials guarantee the public interest not only of a specific territory, but also of the citizens of the entire state community.

She also stated that following the powers granted to the Seimas controllers, it is possible to significantly contribute to ensuring human rights in self-government.

J. Miliuvienė was nominated for the position by the Speaker of the Seimas, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen.

In 2005, J. Miliuvienė obtained a master’s degree in law from Vilnius University, then completed law studies in Grenoble, France, and obtained a second-cycle research master’s degree in law. He studied the protection of human rights and freedoms and EU law at the Paris National School of Administration.

In 2020, she was awarded a doctoral degree in legal sciences in the field of social sciences at Mykolas Romeris University. From 2021, he is conducting postdoctoral studies.

In 2008, J. Miliuvienė started her professional career at the Constitutional Court, she is currently an advisor to the president of this court, and from 2021 she is the court’s representative for relations with the Venice Commission. In addition, she interned at the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights.

Since 2013, she has been engaged in pedagogical and scientific activities at Mykolas Romeris University: she lectures on Lithuanian constitutional law, is a researcher, author and co-author of scientific publications, and participates in international conferences of constitutionalists.

The Seimas comptroller is appointed for a five-year term by the Seimas at the recommendation of the Speaker of the Seimas.

J. Miliuvienė will replace Milda Vainiutė, who has held the position of controller since 2018, in the office of the Seimas Controller.
