Ivory Coast: the MTN Foundation equips a public university with a FabLab

The MTN Côte d’Ivoire Foundation offered computer and technical equipment to Nangui Abrogoua University (public) on Thursday. ‘UFR of Applied Fundamental Sciences in particular and to make this structure benefit from the implementations of a connected world.

It aims to support the Nangui Abrogoua University of Abobo-Adjamé, located in the north of Abidjan, in the transformation of learning while allowing students to implement their knowledge and projects through this manufacturing laboratory. .

“Today, MTN is asking itself the question of what can we do in terms of education to enable our young brothers to invent their professions, because the traditional professions are occupied”, declared Ms. Natenin Coulibaly.

According to the Executive Secretary of the Foundation, “if we want to improve the employability of our young people, we must allow them to be more innovative through technology and at MTN, training is essential”.

“Innovation leads us to the LabFab”, she maintained, before adding that “this university is the first to be equipped with a FabLab (by the Foundation) because the university asked us instead and instead of a multimedia room, to offer a FabLab”.

It is also a question of supporting the Ivorian government in building the capacities of learners, while improving their employability, she underlined, while urging students to believe in themselves and to dare, by creating and inventing their profession.

The president of the Nangui Abrogoua University of Abobo-Adjamé, Mr. Tano Yao, thanked the general manager of MTN who, through the Foundation, granted this equipment which will increase the capacities of this FabLab in terms of technological innovation for the benefit of users, researchers, administrative and technical staff, and especially students.


“I would like to reassure the foundation that we will make very good use of this equipment, which we have waited for with great impatience; these will help to complete the training of our learners,” he continued.

He pointed out that thanks to this donation, the Foundation contributes in a qualitative way to raising the quality of training through the realization of innovative projects for the benefit of students and technical staff.

The integration of young people remains a global concern and particularly in Côte d’Ivoire. Thus, in its perspective of self-employability, creativity and the realization of student projects in particular, Nangui Abrogoua University (UNA) has set up a FabLab.

The realization of this project with a total cost of 20 million FCFA will allow the FabLab-UNA to benefit from innovative computer and digital equipment, in particular 10 HP core I7 desktop computers, 1 3D scanner, 1 precision screwdriver kit, 5 Spray scanning, 10 Lacquer for 3D printing, etc., and a free internet connection.

The donation of equipment from the Foundation is part of the support of the Ivorian government to encourage the training of young people in order to strengthen their employability. The Foundation has offered more than 150 multimedia rooms in several universities, schools and health centers throughout the Ivorian territory.

Born at the American University of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in the course of the 90s, the FabLab aims to offer a space for collaboration and to provide users with the basic knowledge and assistance necessary for the creation personal and participatory projects
