MTN Côte d’Ivoire plans to invest a total amount of 15,000,000 FCFA for the year 2022 for its STEM GIRLZ initiative. The telephone operator, MTN Côte d’Ivoire, launched Friday the 2nd edition of its STEM GIRLZ project, aimed at motivating young girls to “embrace” ICT, a growing sector, where they are very often under-represented.
The STEM GIRLZ project aims to be a space for raising awareness with the objective of creating a new generation of young girls who are motivated and determined to succeed, and to be women leaders in science and technology.
In this momentum, the telephone company organized a personal development panel around the theme “Young girls in ICT”, at Nangui Abrogoua University (UNA, public) in the presence of 400 students from scientific fields.
The panel brought together on the same stage three Network engineers from MTN, a business digitalization consultant and a leadership and personal development coach, who exchanged views with these students in order to encourage them to take an interest in ICT.
A corporate citizen, this subsidiary of the MTN group, launched the STEM GIRLZ project two years ago in order to empower young girls, through inspiring role models and raising awareness so as to encourage them to engage in information technologies and communication.
Through the STEM GIRLZ project, the telephone operator wants to offer the opportunity for girls and young women to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to develop content in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Following the panel, the second edition of the STEM GIRLZ project will take place with more than 1,000 students, notably at Lycée Moderne 1 & 2 in Grand Bassam, Lycée Moderne in Anyama, Lycée Municipal 2 in Koumassi and Nangui University. Abrogoua.
The start of the awareness phase for young girls was held on Wednesday April 27, 2022 at the Lycée moderne de Grand-Bassam, a seaside resort located 40 kilometers southeast of Abidjan.
MTN Côte d’Ivoire plans to invest a total amount of 15,000,000 FCFA for the year 2022 for its STEM GIRLZ initiative. In 2021, 20 million CFA francs have been committed to raising awareness and training 800 young girls.
