12 cases of dengue epidemic reported in Abidjan

The dengue epidemic is resurfacing in Côte d’Ivoire with 12 new cases including 1 death, reported in the district of Abidjan, local media report. Therefore, a mosquito control campaign was launched on Friday May 6, 2022, in the Cocody-Bingerville area where most cases were observed.

This is the fifth time since 2008 that a dengue epidemic has been reported in Côte d’Ivoire. The Ministry of Health has, in fact, confirmed 12 new cases including 1 death in the health district of Cocody, commune of Bingerville, in Greater Abidjan.

The Ivorian authorities ensure, however, that measures have been taken to stem the spread of the disease.

These include, among other things, raising public awareness of good hygiene and sanitation practices, in particular the elimination of breeding sites in used tires, the systematic screening of patients for any non-malaria fever in addition to the tests antigens once morest COVID-19.

Dengue fever is a disease caused by the tiger mosquito and has various symptoms, which include headaches, body aches, high fever and pain in the joints, among others. The severe form is characterized by bleeding, abdominal pain and vomiting which can lead to the death of the patient.
